Florida Man Allegedly Gunned Down Ex-Girlfriend 45 Minutes After She Filed Police Report Against Him
Robens Cesar allegedly shot and killed his former girlfriend, Fridelene Daniel, after she refused to get back together with him, police say.
A Florida man allegedly gunned down his ex-girlfriend in a parking lot last week, less than an hour after she’d filed a police report against him for stalking her, according to reports.
Robens Cesar, 41, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Fridelene Daniel, CBS12 reported.
Police were dispatched to the Meadows on Green apartment complex in Boynton Beach around 9 a.m. on November 8 after neighbors reported hearing numerous gunshots. Emergency responders found Daniel unresponsive in the parking lot of the property. She’d sustained several gunshot wounds. Shell casings were found littered on the nearby concrete.
A black Honda was seen speeding away from the scene, according to CBS12. Authorities suspect the vehicle in question belonged to Cesar.
What was Fridelene Daniel heard saying just before she was fatally shot?
At the time of the shooting, Daniel was reportedly on the phone with her aunt in Haiti. She could allegedly be heard saying to her ex-boyfriend, Cesar, "Oh, did you bring a gun to kill me?," CBS 12 reported.
Why was Fridelene Daniel at a police station just before her death?
Approximately 45 minutes before she was shot and killed, Daniel had gone to the Boynton Beach Police Department to lodge the complaint against Cesar, who she claimed was stalking and harassing her, officials said. Cesar allegedly followed her to the police station, according to authorities.
In a press release following the incident, the Boynton Beach Police Department said they’d launched an internal affairs investigation to see if the department had followed protocol properly in taking Daniel's complaint against Cesar. The officer who received the report has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to CBS12.
"The loss of any life is a tragic event, and the Boynton Beach Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased," the police department said in a prepared statement. "Our hearts go out to all affected by this unfortunate incident.”
According to WPTV, the shooting unfolded after the couple had broken up. Following Cesar’s arrest, he allegedly told homicide investigators he’d shot Daniel after she refused to get back together with him. The reportedly jealous former partner allegedly admitted he couldn’t stand the thought of Daniel with another lover and said that her decision to contact police was the “last straw,” according to ABC affiliate WPBF.
Prior to her death, Daniel had lived with her 16-year-old daughter. The teenager has been staying with family members since the deadly shooting.
Cesar was denied bail by a judge on Thursday. He’s being held at Palm Beach County jail, according to online records obtained by Oxygen.com. It’s unclear if he’s retained legal counsel.
