Instagram Influencer Found Dead In Suitcase, Man Arrested

There’s been an arrest made in connection with the grisly murder of a Russian Instagram influencer, officials announced on Wednesday.

The body of Instagram star Ekaterina Karaglanova was found stuffed inside a suitcase in the hallway outside her apartment in Moscow, according to the BBC. She had reportedly been attacked with a knife.

When Karaglanova’s family couldn’t reach her, they asked her landlord to check on her apartment. The suitcase and the gruesome discovery of what was in it was made on Friday.

A statement released by the Russian Ministry of Interior (MVD) on Wednesday indicated that a male suspect — whom officials did not name — had been arrested in connection with her gruesome murder.

"As a result of operational search activities, the police officers at the Moscow Directorate of the MVD of Russia in Moscow established the location and arrested the suspect in the murder of a female social media personality in the apartment of a residential building on Pyryeva Street," Irina Volk, the official spokesperson for the MVD, said, CNN reports. "He has now been brought in for questioning."

In her final post on Instagram, the social media star holds a glass of wine and says hello to the city of Moscow, indicating that she was happy to be back from some recent travels.

Karaglanova’s Instagram had over 85,000 followers. She was a dermatologist and an Instagram influencer who was often pictured visiting resorts and exotic vacation spots.

While Karaglanova is her online name, her legal name appears to be Yekaterina Semochkina.

Law enforcement said jealousy could be a potential motive, the BBC reported. Police said Karaglanova’s boyfriend had been captured by surveillance cameras in the days leading up to her disappearance, but couldn’t confirm if he was a suspect.
