Sex Offender Suspected of Killing Elderly Man, Captured in NYC, Police Say

A sex offender who allegedly claims to be a serial killer apparently mouthed to reporters that he killed an elderly Florida man in his care "with my bare hands."

Nicholas Brent Gibson, 32, was arrested earlier this month on a New York City subway platform after leaving Florida following the mid-April death of 77-year-old Eric Stocker, who was found murdered with a sword inside his Miami Beach apartment. Gibson was reportedly Stocker's caretaker. After his arrest, Gibson allegedly made the startling claim that he started killing in 1999, when he would have been 12, according to a New York Post report.

On Friday, as Gibson was being led out of a New York City courthouse, an NBC New York reporter asked him if he killed Stocker.

"Yes, with my bare hands," Gibson appeared to mouth as a reply.

The reporter then said she heard he'd used a sword and he nodded, said yes, and mouthed back “a big one.”

When asked why he replied, “He wanted to go.”

A reporter asked Gibson how many people he's killed and he replied "32," the New York Post reports.

Gibson is awaiting extradition to south Florida. He’s expected to be charged with murder in addition to assault of police officers, as he allegedly resisted arrest when he was spotted in New York City. There was a struggle between him and NYPD officers, resulting in one officer being injured, according to WPLG in Miami.

Gibson was also wanted for violating probation for failing to register as a sex offender. He was convicted of a sexual assault in 2008, according to online records. It wasn't his first sexual assault either; he was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in Illinois in 2000, when he was about 13, according to the Miami Herald. He served seven years in juvenile detention for that incident.

He’s been in legal trouble multiple times around the country, including for repeatedly failing to register as a sex offender, which most recently resulted in a federal prison stint.

He once got arrested at the Dunkin’ Donuts where he worked in Jupiter, Florida but most recently he was working as a caretaker for Stocker.

Gibson also reportedly goes under the name "Brent Savage."

It’s not clear if Gibson has a lawyer who can speak on his behalf.

Police are looking into his alleged claims that he has killed previously.

“We are evaluating the information he has provided,” the Miami Beach Police Department has said in a statement. “We will be working with law enforcement in these locations in an attempt to determine the credibility of his statements.”
