Ernie Scherer spent months after killing his parents Ernest and Charlene pursuing women across the Southern United States using Craigslist, posing as an author writing a book about a gambler whose parents were murdered. One girl told investigators he slept with a rope around his foot in case he needed to jump out a window in the night.
