XXXTentacion was expecting a baby at the time of his death, the slain rapper’s mother recently revealed.

The 20-year-old Florida rapper was shot and killed at a motorcycle dealership on Monday. His mother, Cleopatra Bernard, revealed on Thursday that her son was expecting his child at the time of his death, posting a sonogram photo of his unborn child on Instagram.

“He left us a final gift,” she wrote in the caption.

XXXTentacion’s girlfriend, an unidentified woman he’d reportedly been dating for months at the time of his death, is the mother of his child, TMZ reports. And though the news may have come as a surprise to his fans, the rapper had reportedly known for weeks prior to his death that he had a child on the way, the gossip site reports.

XXXTentacion, whose legal name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was gunned down on Monday afternoon after being approached by two gunmen during what may have been a robbery attempt.

Suspect Dedrick Devonshay Williams was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder, and booked on charges including first degree murder, probation violation for theft of a car, and driving without a valid license.

The rapper was surrounded by controversy during his life, most notably concerning allegations that he’d abused a former girlfriend who was pregnant and then tried to bribe her into not testifying against him. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering in 2016, and pleaded not guilty. He was awaiting trial at the time of his death.
