Detective Donna Velazquez from the Pembroke Pines Police Department is asked to investigate the 15-year-old disappearance of David Churchill Jackson. Above her desk, Velazquez creates a vision board with photographs and information about Jackson. Later, a young man from The Explorers, an organization that allows teenagers to shadow police officers, stops in front of her desk and tells her, "That man is my father."

When Todd Schultz and Annette Cooper disappear, Kenny Linscott goes to the emergency room for a severe laceration on his forearm. In an interview with Linscott's wife, she told police she was suspicious of her husband's injury. Linscott claimed he was injured in an accident, but it was later discovered he had held the young couple's limbs while killer Chester McKnight sawed them off.
