John Bobbitt May Need To Have His Foot Amputated

John Wayne Bobbitt, who rose to tabloid fame in the 1990s after infamously having his penis cut off by wife Lorena Bobbittmay need to have a foot amputated.

Bobbitt told TMZ that the possible amputation stems from a 2013 injury, when he was working in construction. He said he stepped on a nail, which punctured a toe on his left foot. The incident triggered an infection that extended to the bone of his left foot, Bobbitt told the outlet.

Antibiotics apparently never healed that infection and Bobbitt is currently in a Las Vegas hospital, where he says doctors are debating whether to amputate the foot. TMZ posted graphic photos of Bobbitt's foot to accompany their story.

It wouldn't be Bobbitt's first amputation stemming from an infection, TMZ reports. He lost one of his right toes last year after a cut became infected.

Bobbitt is best known for being attacked by his former wife Lorena Bobbitt. She cut his penis off with a knife in 1993 and then drove off with it, tossing it out of her car window into a field. It was later retrieved and doctors were able to successfully reattach it. He later starred in at least two pornographic films that have titles that reference his revived member: "John Wayne Bobbitt: Uncut" and "Frankenpenis."

The case and its curiosities became one of the most sensational cases of the 1990s, and both Lorena and John became fodder for late night comedy shows. But, the details of the case were no laughing matter. While Lorena admitted to chopping off her then-husband's penis, she said it was in response to physical abuse and rape, including a sexual assault that very night. She was ultimately found not guilty of malicious wounding due to temporary insanity and John was acquitted of marital sexual assault. Several other women have accused him of domestic violence.

The infamous incident was recently revisited in a 2019 Amazon docu-series called “Lorena.” In it, John claimed that he too was the victim of physical and sexual abuse.
